Babies who are born prematurely are this way because they depend completely on the health of the mother and how the baby was carried and other elements involved.
The Millennium Development Goal for infant mortality is to "reduce by two-thirds, between 1990 and 2015, the under-five mortality rate." The under-five mortality rate is the probability per 1,000 that a newborn baby will die before reaching age five.
Many of the problems that face the infants occur because there is a lack of knowledge and resources to help the mothers and infants after birth. Jane Chenn gave a TED talk that addressed one of these issues: no incubators to regulate the baby's body temperature. Infants cannot regulate their own temperature, and so they are dying due to a lack of heat. The places where this is the biggest problem is in rural areas where there aren't any clinics or hospitals near by. Incubators are also extremely expensive and these poor communities cannot afford to buy one. So Chenn saw a problem and decided to fix it. She created a wrap that is able to act as an incubator, but it also is affordable and easy to use.
Chenn introduced three questions that can help people solve problems that are in the world around them.
By asking herself these questions, she is becoming a part of the solution to reducing the amount of infant deaths world-wide.
As of 2011, the child mortality rate in the UAE was 6.60 deaths for every 1,000 births. One problem with determining the infant mortality rate is that it is difficult to get accurate data about how many babies have died. Sometimes the families will choose not to report the death or the baby may die before they had any idea.
The UAE however has an excellent rate compared to many other countries in the world. This is because they are able to set up hospitals and clinics that have the resources needed for post-natal care for mother and baby.

- Who is the end user?
- What is the most simple solution?
- Is it low cost?
